New examination practice for the elective course A-313, Choice and Validation of the Analytical Method Advanced Analytical Chemistry .

The examination was split into two parts, one traditional (3 hours) to gauge the students level of at-hand information (multiple choice) and ability to handle a calibration and an essay-problem where an article conderning a comparison and validation of an analytical method was posed to the students the last class before examination. The examination which took place ca. three weeks later.

  • To obtain better answer

The examination was discussed afterwards with some of the students. Based on this, and on the results of the written answers to the examination, it was deemed, that the experiment was a success. In terms of evaluation of the students, minor adjustments are necessary, such as a higher weight factor for the multiple choice part of the exam.

Development of Lab-course in Quantitative Analytical Chemistry.

General. Lifted the course from Ph. Eur 4th ed. to Ph. Eur. 6th ed.

Part of chloride determination changed from colorimetric to potentiometric end point determination and use of Dibutyl phthalate eliminated

Complexometric Titration changed, inteference check of influence from MgO excipient improved (uncertainty og weighing the necessary amount of MgO to large, changed substance to MgSO4,7H2O)

Developed better weighing containers for Karl Fischer titration, reducing weighing and sample application uncertainties.

Non aqueous titration: hanged from colorimetric to potentiometric end point determination.

Illustrated instructions for pipetting (Peleus balls) and spectrophotometry developed.

Peleus Balls changed to Pipetting aids macro (See e.g. Carl Roth) for better ergonomics and ease of use, improving repeatability of pipetting operations.

Other. New autoburettes for non-aqueous titration, new spectrophotometers for spectrophotometric determination of Cu (aq).
